User’s Steal Thousands Worth of Microsoft Points

A promotion offered by Microsoft that gave users 160 Microsoft points (worth $2) and a48-hour subscription to Xbox live kind of blew up in their face.

Last weekend some savvy Xbox live users discovered a flaw in a Microsoft promotional code that allowed them to create falsified albeit real key’s, they were then able to steal 1,000’s of dollars worth of Microsoft points.

Microsoft puts the estimated loss between $1 and $3 million, however math and common sense put the number at about $140,000. Microsoft also said that they’ve taken steps to identify and ban the offending users, which means their real loss is about the cost of whatever was downloaded with the stolen points.
