White House Android App Released

official-whitehouse-app

The White House has finally released an App for the Android marketplace which joins the current iPhone White House App that’s been available since January 2010.

For those unfamiliar with the iPhone version the app allows you to follow the White House blog, see behind the scenes pictures and videos and get the latest news. The App also has a feature which lets you stream live press conferences and even alerts you when they’re about to happen.

President Obama has already made some decent efforts to enhance White House IT, according to his CIO Vivek Kundra, when Obama and his team came into office, federal IT was undeniably broken. The President went so far as to say the White House is “like 30 years behind” in technology.

This is a step in the right direction in my opinion, more and more people are starting to use their phones and other connected devices to get their news, watch videos and send messages. The easier the Government makes it for people to connect to them through this portal the more participation they can expect from the public.  The White House app joins the other list of official government apps such as NASA and the FBI that attempt to achieve this goal of more public interaction.
