Best Buy, Apple Blacklist Rumors Not True

Earlier this week rumors were hitting the web like crazy that Apple was apparently not going to ship any more iPad 2’s to Best Buy after receiving reports that managers were lying to customers about selling out of the tablets while holding some on reserve. Apparently those rumors were not true.

The rumors started on April 7th with a report on the blog CrunchGear, the source of the report was apparently a reader who worked at Best Buy, and according to him the company got caught holding out on iPad 2 sales for some unknown reason.

Best Buy was quick to respond the next day with an emailed statement to Boy Genius Report stating that “Best Buy continues to receive iPad 2 inventory from Apple on a regular basis.” and that they were fulfilling customer reservations first adding, “Our stores have been asked to temporarily hold on-reserved iPad 2 inventory for an upcoming promotion.”

Other un-substantiated rumors say that Apple COO Tim Cook emailed CrunchGear’s original source of the story and said that to the best of his knowledge Best Buy sold out their initial supply of iPad 2’s on launch night and the rest were gone the next day. Also stating he is unaware of any units being held.

So according to all this new information, and if were to believe Best Buy, this was all just a misunderstanding and all iPad 2’s are where they’re supposed to be.
